First edition, one of 33 numbered copies on japon, most limited deluxe issue (tirage de tête).
Dark green half morocco binding, gilt date at foot, marbled paper endpapers and pastedowns, abstract-patterned paper endpapers and pastedowns, top edge gilt, original wrappers preserved and bound in, elegant binding signed by Alix.
Ondine was first performed on April 27, 1939 at the Théâtre de l'Athénée, directed by Louis Jouvet.
A handsome, nicely bound copy, with an exceptionally added suite of four numbered lithographs by Jean Berque, never used as illustrations for the book.
