Louis REYBAUD

Jérome Paturot à la recherche d'une position sociale

J.J. Dubochet & Le Chevalier & Cie, Paris 1846, 18,5x27,5cm, 460pp., relié.

Edition illustrated first edition by Grandville. 32 inset illustrations of Grandville, and 200 vignettes, culs-de-lampe and in-text ornaments, engraved on wood.
Romantic binding in blue percaline of the editor, smooth back richly adorned with a large golden plate representing Jerome Paturot climbing a ladder. six-fold golden net framing on the boards, first board adorned with a gilt and polychrome decor depicting the imaginary weapons of Jerome Patureau, lower dish struck with a golden iron, golden slices. Small lack of percaline top of the upper gold in headdress on 2 minutes, otherwise very nice copy. The golds are not bright, but probably this is due to the original quality of the gold used. Foxing.
"One of the best productions of Grandville." Carteret.
Comic, moral and political fable in which the character seeking to escape from his fate of bonnetier crosses the movements of his time.
