Edition in large part original, decorated with a portrait of the Marquise de Sevigne in Volume I and Volume V. repeated Full speckled calf time. Back tooled raised. Parts of titles and volume numbers in red morocco. 3 caps cleverly restored and difficult to detect. Friction wear, but good copy, very nice. Important issue in the bibliography of the first editions of the Marquise de Sevigne; Indeed, it is the first edition with a considerable number of letters (614 against 134 for the two-volume edition 1726) and the first authorized by the goddaughter of the Marquise: Pauline Simiane; it will ask Perrin, an editor from Aix en Provence, to establish an edition based on manuscripts. It was held that the letters to the Countess of Grignan. The edition of 1754 increased, contain 712 letters. Handwritten letters were then destroyed after selected according to interest and style. A useful index at the end of Volume VI will find the characters scattered throughout the letters.
