First edition illustrated with 80 drawings by Benett and 12 inset color. Catalog D for 1895 attesting to the first edition.
Editor's cartonnage says "To the glued portrait". Plate signed Paul Souze on the ball. Lenègre and co in tail of the back and on the anchor. Note that the vignette at the lighthouse is no longer sky blue but midnight blue. Second flat good, but darker areas and a whitish spot.
Remarkably fresh paper, totally freckles, very appreciable.
Very nice copy, despite minor defects.
Science fiction novel in which an island containing a whole city, is propelled by propellers. The protagonists are a quartet of musicians, allowing Verne to transmit his love of music. There are several sharp remarks about Wagner.
