First edition of this collection of 207 deliveries in-4 (2) ff. each ranging from 105 to 312 numbers without interruption (of 469 published from 1878 to 1899). Binders half sheepskin navy blue, flat spines decorated with gilt finials, scuffs, summary and first courses covers volumes preserved, bindings of the time. Important and rare collection of portraits elevators. Each issue is a monograph on a personality of the time the art world (writers, politicians, journalists, artists ...). The first issue was published September 14, 1878 and is dedicated to Victor Hugo. Every delivery is a four-page illustrated cover of a caricature in color, executed by Émile Cohl, Coll-Toc, André Gill, Demare, Dreux, Job, Roc, Choubrac Bridet, Régamey. Entries are written by a team of authors signing under the collective pseudonym of "Peter and Paul." Paul Verlaine wrote 27, 12 of which are in this collection. Poet has written biographies of his fellow Parnassus and those young decadent or symbolist writers who shared his ideas. Gustave Kahn, Felix Fénéon Jules Tellier, E. Armand among others, will also collaborated. A spot indoors margin of No. 257, otherwise good copy virtually free of foxing.
