New edition, after the first in 1878 in the cartonnage "Aux 2 eléphants". 6 chromotypographies in color and a map. AJ catalog in fine.
Editor cartonnage said "Au globe dorée" type 3, the most successful form for this cartonnage. Second flat Engel type h with interlaced letters on a black background.
Good first plate with gold well clear and bright. Cartridge with scratched area. Dirt in the sky. Friction along the red border. The upper 2 corners rubbed and a little folded, the other 2 pointed and straight. Back with several scraped areas, pretty golds. Headdress folded and rubbed. second board well with some stains. 4 leaves slightly out. Scattered foxing. Good copy overall.
Adventure novel devoted to the issue of slavery, and more particularly the slave trade by the Africans themselves. This is one of the best stories of Verne, one where the story is the most accomplished.
