According to Louis Arnoult, Racan (anecdotal and critical of his life and his work history. Paris, A. Colin. 1896), it is the best edition of Sheepfolds. It is preceded by many parts, Epistle to the King, Ode to the king, various sonnets himself, letter to Malherbe. Racan compoa this pastoral drama when he was enamored of Catherine de Spa, alias Arthenice in 1619. Caught in the turmoil of war, state soldier himself, he shall return to his work until much later.
