    Edition illustrée en premier tirage. Un plan de Jérusalem et une carte dépliante rehaussée de couleurs de la terre sainte dans le tome 4, 32 gravures sur acier très bien gravées, d'après des oeuvres de Raphaël, Poussin, Lebrun, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Murillo, Ribeira, Gros, Girodet, H. Vernet, Court, Raffet, Johannot, Decaisne, etc. Impression sur deux colonnes.



    Reliure de l'éditeur en plein chagrin rouge maroquiné signée Boutigny en queue, avec son étiquette en page de garde. Dos lisse orné d'une grande plaque spéciale en long, très ouvragé, au décor complexe, évoquant un ouvrage d'orfèvrerie. Grande plaque dorée sur les plats évoquant l'architecture religieuse du XVIIe siècle ; dans la partie basse, les chiffres IHS et AM entrelacés. Belle qualité de cuir, proche du maroquin, mais travaillé comme un chagrin. Traces légères de frottement. Coiffe de queue du tome 2 élimée en partie. Cuir du mors supérieur du tome 2 très étroitement fendu. 2 coins émoussés au tome 1, un au tome 3, 2 au tome 4.  La coiffe de tête du tome 3 a subi une légère restauration. Petite épidermure sur le plat supérieur du tome 4. Tranches dorées.  Rousseurs éparses, quelques feuillets brunis.
    Très bel exemplaire. Rare condition.
    La Bible traduite par Lemaistre de Sacy fut celle lue tant par Victor Hugo que Rimbaud tout au long du XIXe siècle, si on lui reproche aujourd'hui son manque de littéralité, elle brille cependant par une plus grande qualité littéraire et une plus grande puissance d'évocation.
