VITRUVE & Renatus Flavius Vegetius (dit) VEGECE De architectura libri decem [ensemble] De re militari

VITRUVE & Renatus Flavius Vegetius (dit) VEGECE

De architectura libri decem [ensemble] De re militari

S.n. [S. de Gabiano] ; [Guillaume Huyon], s.l. [Lyon] 1523, In 8 (9x16cm), 195f. (15) 22f. (Sig. A-Z8, AA-FF8.) ; (8) 135f. (Sig. : A8, a-q8,r7.), relié.

Very rare meeting of two Lyon editions that are stored in the Aldine collection because they were printed on them by their heirs. Italics. Edition of Vitruvius printing of the 1522 (Brunet V, 1327) given by the heirs of P. Giunta. Red title in a woodcut frame (cherubs, foliage, dragons) with an empty space for arms. Ditto for editing Végèce. The 161 figures were taken from Vitruvius editing Giunta (1513) in Florence, and reduced. The figure on page 60 was printed upside down. Each chapter heading, a gap was left with the original for illumination. This edition is attached Aldine editions, see Brunet, V, 1327 edition of Vegetius was printed from the Aldine edition. For reference to the editor, Harness, VII p. 166 Although the two publishers are different for the two editions, this is undoubtedly the same printer, printing is obviously the same. Absent Brunet. Full sheepskin brown eighteenth. Spine ribbed ornate. Part of title morocco beige. Friction. Trimmed relatively short, without any gaps. Lack skillfully restored on the title page of Vitruvius. A pale wetness on the first 30 sheets halfway page. Edition of Vitruvius Giovanni Gocondo with in a text index of Julius Frontin: From acqueductibus Libris, similar to the Giunta edition of Florence. Listed by Adams V905. Editing Végèce given by Guy Breslay. The success of these two classics, De architectura Vitruvius and De re militari of Vegetius extended the Roman world to the modern era; The two books were read and studied particularly during the Renaissance, symbols of the revival of antiquity, evidence of a revered world abolished and a new world that we wanted to build on the same basis. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
