This beautiful catalog includes the reproduction of 68 ancient marbles and 5 original Adam marbles. The ancient marbles presented here from the ruins of Nero's palace at Palatine Hill and those of Marius Palace, located between Rome and Frascati. Conducted in France, they were purchased from the heirs of Cardinal Adam who enriched the collection with its own purchases in the Eternal City; these sculptures have also often been restored by the artist (he was also responsible for numerous antique prints by Cardinal). Five years before his death in 1754, Adam decided to sell his collection. He suggested to potential buyers form a gallery, decorate a library, living room, or finally enrich academy. Coming from a family of sculptors, Adam won the Prix de Rome in 1723 and lived a decade in the eternal city, protected by Cardinal de Polignac, Ambassador of France to Rome. He made contact with a specialty of Rome sculpture fountains (Neptune fountain at Versailles). --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
