Original rare Edition.
Bound in brown sheepskin posterior half (ca 1820), back with four nerves decorated with gilded nets, cold jewels and a piece of black morocco title. Paper plates to the tank. All marbled edges. A few small spots in low margin of the last leaf, otherwise copy of freshness.

The Enlightenment, or a more extensive way his mind, will have resulted not only in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the citizen, but to a deeper reflection on human freedom, political injustices were quickly targets, including the abolition of slavery and the emancipation of the Jews and their civic integration; it had already taken off in France by Louis XVI Tolerance Edict in 1787 (under the influence of Malesherbes) granting civil rights to Jews. If the text of the Abbé Grégoire dates from the same year, it will not stop to literature and go up to the National Assembly 3 August 1789 requesting the total emancipation of the Jews. The original text of Gregory, a competition organized by the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Metz for the year 1787 whose subject was: "Are there ways to make them more useful and happier Jews France? "Two texts will be distinguished, that of Gregory and a second Thiery. The Academy has not awarded price, the contest was renewed the following year, where Gregory shared the prize with other nominees.

"The test of Abbé Henri Grégoire is a work that stands as a symbol for a part of humanity. It is a spiritual meeting place where joins the miserable situation of Jews in France at the end of the Old Regime, interviewing men of the Enlightenment deal with this condition flouting the nascent ideology of human rights and the strength of conviction of Abbé Grégoire, certainly one of the men that the denial of injustice and generosity of heart led to more firmly support the cause of the oppressed "(R.
