Abbé Charles COTIN Oeuvres meslées de Mr. Cottin

Abbé Charles COTIN

Oeuvres meslées de Mr. Cottin

Chez Antoine de Sommaville, à Paris 1659, In 12 (8,5x14,5cm), (10) 3 - 80 (4) 129p., relié.

Edition collective rare. Solid pine green morocco signed late nineteenth-Masson Debonnelle. Back to nerves ornate. Triple fillet border on covers. Large inner lace. Gilt edges. Very nice copy, perfectly prepared. The cotin abbot is a key figure in the literary salons of the seventeenth and the Molière carricatura in the guise of Father Trissotin in Scholarly women. He invented a game for these shows, the poem The enigma that puzzles this time (p1 80) are a testimony. He was the fashionable poet of the period, the provider of environmental gallant poetry and light which the uranie dedicated to Marguerite de Rohan is a model. The works also include epigrams, The Loves of the day and night, the discourse on puzzles and other parts. Bookplate John Geoffrey Aspin.
