Mention of a second edition; having appeared in the original 1752 Full brown sheepskin period. Smooth back adorned with grotesque foliage. Part of title in red morocco. A tear in tail missing. Beautiful specimen. Set of philosophical letters on various topics such as monads, the animal soul, the laws of motion ... The warning states misunderstanding of the author vis-à-vis the violent attacks was the object to the book's release and notify that the book was burned up Berlin. Deemed a difficult and appointed head of the Academy of Sciences character Maupertuis incurred the wrath of his colleagues and the enmity of his colleagues. The publication of the letters, Maupertuis then being too weak to develop a comprehensive treaty, and hatred it aroused accelerated the end of the scientist who died in 1759.
