First edition

First illustrated edition (the original being published in 6 volumes in-8 at the same date), illustrated with 2 frontispices and 18 inset, all on steel on strong paper and by Pilipoteaux, Riffaut, Karl Girardet ... The engravings are quite beautiful and protected under pink snakes. The first frontispiece shows Louis-Philippe in family with Madame de Genlis, the governess of the king's children.
Bindings in half black shagreen. Back with false nerves adorned with golden and cold fillets, lean and fat. Friction. Nice copy, relatively fresh despite some foxing.
It might have been feared that the novelist Dumas would take precedence over the Dumas historian, but this is not the case in this happy book, which is very orderly and factual but endowed with a sense of uncommon narrative, and which quotes many letters. in particular in the supporting documents. The author does not forget anything since the birth of Louis-Philippe until his fall.
