Second edition and first Charpentier for these two books. The history of England (2 volumes) was translated by Jules Peyronnet, and the story of William (4 volumes) by Amédée Pichot. Half red morocco iced over. Binding unsigned master. Back to nerves ornate. Title, volume number with golden date tail. Double gold band on the flats. Golden head. Scattered spots. Very nice copy, perfectly prepared and beautifully decorative series. Whig history Macaulay had a profound impact, although later he was blamed his vision, that of belonging to a liberal Whig and analyzing the Revolution of 1668 as a glorious act for the future of England. The Whigs have always shown their opposition to royal absolutism.
