Muslih-ud-Din Mushrif ibn Abdullah SAADI (traduction) Jean-Baptiste NICOLAS

Le Boustan poème persan de Sé'édi.

Paul Leloup, Paris 1869, 17x25cm, broché.

First edition of the first French translation of a part of the poem of Saadi: The Bustan.

Jean-Baptiste Nicolas was part of an important French diplomatic mission, led by Count de Sercey. This mission left Paris in November 1839 and arrived in Tehran in April 1840. He was the first dragoman of the French Embassy in Tehran for a time. He was then Consul of France at Racht. He stayed in Iran for about thirty years. He knew Persian well. It was he who translated for the first time in French the quatrains of Omar Khayyam, and published this translation when he returned to Paris in 1867.

Of a rarity rarity.
